Effervescent on opening, lots of lovely tiny bubbles. Pours beautifully. This is wonderfully drinkable. Light and very refreshing. Not overpowering the way some Kombuchas can be - a great replacement for alcoholic fizz!

Flavour

Lisa was really looking forward to trying this one as she loves ginger and Kombucha so this one seems like a marriage made in heaven! This was a fizzy little madam - careful when opening as the cap shot off (had possibly been stored slightly too warm). The bubbles soon dissipated. The ginger flavour is quite subtle - but with a lovely freshness - a hint of freshly grated ginger rather than a fiery ginger that burns! The ginger balances the Kombucha nicely without overpowering it. Overall a bright, zingy drink!

Right at the end March we had another takeover day in the group – Mude introduced our community to their ready to drink cans – featuring a drink to help support every “Mude”; Chill, Play, Sleep and Work. People's Choice!

Following Lisa taking part as a judge at the World Alcohol Free Awards (WAFA) in March, NonToxicated was delighted to have been asked to nominate 2 members of our community to take part in the judging of the first ever “People’s Choice” Award. We ran a competition to offer group members the opportunity to be a “Judge for a Day” and Kirsty Johnson and Malcom Dragon were thrilled to be selected. They attended the judging at the Club Soda tasting rooms in London on 10th May. We can’t wait to see their pictures and hear which drinks won the People’s Choice awards and the Trophies selected from the medal winners – more news on the WAFA virtual awards ceremony coming soon! The event was so successful that the WAFA team are hoping to roll-out Community Judging in other countries!

On the Road

Leanne and Lisa travelled to the NEC on 24th April to check out Low and No drinks at the Food and Drink Expo . This year the Low2No show was integrated into the main show – as many more buyers are looking for Alcohol Free drinks as part of their core range rather than a few specialist retailers looking at the category. Take a look at the Low 2 No exhibitors that were at the show. We had some great conversations, tasted some amazing drinks from around the world and we look forward to welcoming some of them as Brand partners in the coming weeks!

Reviews

We’re lucky enough to have some great reviewers in the group; this month Mick Malty , who is a big fan of Non Alc beers, has reviewed the two So-Beer lagers he won in the NonTox group (one of the reviews was his 225th!!) as well as Red Admiral Rouge, Jump/Ship Stoker’s Oat Milk Stout and from new Yorkshire brewery, Tartarus; the Moon Rabbit Vanilla and Tonka Stout. Calling all alcohol-free drinks lovers. We have a fantastic opportunity for you! But you need to be QUICK!

What To Expect

The judging event is in-person at the beautiful Club Soda Tastings Rooms, 39 Drury Lane, London, WC2B 5RR. The event is 7pm - 9pm.

You will be blind judging the gold winners alongside others from Club Soda and other mindful drinking communities.
You will be expected to stay for the entire event and record your thoughts about drinks on provided tasting sheets.
If you are chosen as a winner and have problems attending the event once the ticket has been allocated, you can WhatsApp Laura Willoughy from Club Soda - we will provide her number.
Unfortunately we cannot cover transport or accommodation costs.

World Alcohol Free Awards - Behind The Scenes!

Getting Certified!

We shared in the group last year that we were delighted that our founder, Lisa Marie Godfrey, had been selected as a judge for the first ever World Alcohol Free Awards. At the beginning of March, in preparation for judging, she completed the (AF) (NA) Beer Certified Exam and a few days later headed down to London to take part in the judging.

Here’s Lisa’s “behind the scenes” insight into what goes on at a drinks tasting..!

Having met up with fellow judges; Laura Silverman (from the US), Mariëlle Timmermans-Klessens (from the Netherlands) and Andy Mee (from Wetherby!) at our hotel we arrived at the judging venue, Cantina del Ponte, with its Thameside location and stunning view of Tower Bridge!

The venue had been converted for the awards from a busy restaurant to a hub for our exclusive use, with half a dozen judging tables, where row upon row of plastic-wrapped bottles awaited their fate!

Team Up

After coffee, introductions and an explanation of the process, the team of about 20 judges were split into judging panels of 3-5 people. Each judge had a laptop where we logged into the competition portal.

Our first “flight” (category) of drinks was brought out – all bottles wrapped securely so they could not be identified and we proceeded to blind taste the drinks. Each judge individually recorded their own tasting notes and decided whether they thought the drinks should go through to the medal round in the afternoon or should be eliminated at that stage.

The team then compared their tasting feedback and a consensus was reached whether each drink progressed to the next stage.

On the odd occasion that there was a disagreement, we had two amazing Senior Judges; Josh Kelly from Club Soda and James Morgan from Brimful Drinks who would come and sample the drinks with us and guide us on anything we may have missed and help us reach a consensus.

Neat Spirits!

Spirits were sampled 'neat' to get a more in-depth profile of the flavours and aromas, and also judged when partnered with the mixer recommended by the competition entrants – all made up with the correct volumes of spirit and mixer to give the perfect serve.

Before lunch on the first day our team had sampled 8 flights made up of 5-8 drinks each! Between flights, when it all got a bit much for our palates, we had water and crackers to enable us to reset before starting on the next category of drinks.

The discarded drinks were all available to the Head Judge, Chrissie Parkinson who verified all the entries and collated all of our feedback to prepare for the afternoon, ably assisted by Chris Losh.

Logistical Lunching

After lunch (which was a feat in logistics itself with different cocktail flags highlighting products which were Gluten-free, Meat-Free, Nut-Free, Dairy Free, Plant-Based etc!) we were into the medals round!

This time our teams were tasting different products; those “put through” by the mornings’ tasters. Again on an individual basis we filled in our tasting notes and recommendations as to whether a product be scored as Commended, Bronze, Silver or Gold.

Having not judged a competition before I was surprised that not every category had a gold, silver and bronze medal. Each drink was judged on its own merit across a set of strict guidelines on how well it performed across a set of criteria – so in some categories there were several bronzes but no golds.

The alcohol free sector has improved enormously but in some cases there’s a little way to go yet before drinks reach a gold standard. As we compared notes as a team, again the Senior Judges were on hand to guide us when needed, however within our team we found we had very close scores!

It was fascinating to learn from the other judges there as we compared tasting notes and it’s inspired me to do some further training on the wine tasting side as it’s such a fascinating area.

We were tasting drinks solidly from 10am to 6pm on Day 1 and then Club Soda invited us all to their amazing Drury Lane venue ( a tasting room, low and no bar and bottle shop all under one roof!) for a cocktail party before heading next door for a Belgian Feast!

Day Two!

Day 2 saw the process repeated, we met a few new judges as we had said goodbye to a few the day before who were only judging on Day 1. We were split into different teams and again spent the morning on an “elimination round” and the afternoon awarding medals – after each round of tasting we took our still-disguised bottles, cans and carafes to the commended, bronze, silver and gold tables to join the award winning drinks from other judging teams. Again everything was verified by the Head of Judging who had access to all of the tasting notes from both rounds!

The day finished with a trip to the Lucky Saint Pub in Marylebone which had opened that week and we got to sample pints of it on draught as well as a host of other alcohol free drinks they have behind the bar!

The Judging Experience

Over the two days I personally judged over 150 drinks and I believe that there were in excess of 400 entries from across the globe. The level of organization and logistics to co-ordinate multiple flights of drinks delivered from across the world, all wrapped securely to hide identity, with the correct reference number, pre-allocated on the judging portal to the correct team for the correct round, with the correct mixer and glass was jaw-dropping!

It was a fascinating process and I felt so proud to be part of this vibrant alcohol free international community! I tasted some amazing drinks and am waiting, with bated breath, to see who the medal winners are – there are some drinks I see our American and Australian members sharing in the group that I have been desperate to try and I have no idea whether any of them were included in the entries!

There were definitely drinks I tasted that were completely different to anything I’ve tried in the UK market!

I also got to spend two days in the company of some amazing fellow judges who are experts in their countries; organisers of sober social events, owners of prestigious alcohol free stores (online and bricks and mortar), drinks journalists, curators of subscription boxes, other alcohol free community founders etc.

It was great to see a few familiar faces from our community on the judging panel; Gemma Mills from JOMO Club and the two Tom’s (Ward and Proctor) from Wise Bartender and The Alcohol Free Co!

Stand Out Categories

Stand out categories for me (bear in mind I didn’t judge in every category) were the sparkling teas, shrubs and sparkling wines. But every company that submitted entries should be proud of their drinks, it really was a high standard and difficult to choose at times!

If you look out in the Financial Times there should be a little taster of some of the award winners this weekend but the full list of medal winners will be announced on Friday 31st March ..we’ll be sharing details in the group and the full list will be announced on the WAFA site here

What an amazing experience, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be invited back next year!

We’ve had 3 Takeover days in the NonTox Facebook group so far in 2023 – Nonsuch Shrubs, ZeroZilchZip and just last week Sobeer (Congrats to the Sobeer winners; Becky Higham, Mick Malty and Rose Anna who should be getting their prizes shortly!). Thanks for all of you supporting our takeover days – it’s an opportunity to get to know the brands and their products in more depth. The ZeroZilchZip post asking you for your wishlist of AF drinks you’d like to be able to buy was the most popular post of the year so far! You came up with ideas such as Jäegermeister, sherry, barley wine, low sugar fruit cider …and a really, really great full-bodied red wine! Take a look at that post here!

Bemuse Spiced Mulled Pear Recipe

Bemuse Spiced Mulled Pear Recipe

A cosy, warming winter drink. Spiced and aromatic, evoking the cheerful flavours and smells of the festive season.

Prep: 30 Mins
Serves: 1

Ingredients
330ml Tarragon, Basil and Hops Bemuse sparkling low alcohol (0.5% ABVmead
1/4 medium pear. Should be sweet & ripe
1 Cinnamon stick
5 Cloves
1 Star anise

Directions
1. Empty 1/2 can of the Bemuse into a pan and begin to warm
2. Cut the pear into thin slices approx 2mm thick. Add to the hot liquid and allow the mixture to simmer for 5 mins until the pear is softened
3. Add all remaining liquid from the can to the pan, swirling to relase any sediment. Add the cinnamon stick, cloves and star anise
4. Allow mixture to warm and simmer for another 10 mins. The liquid will reduce and intensify the flavours and aromas.

Ingredients:

APRTF Bitter Aperitif - 300ml
Maple Syrup - 40ml
Cinnamon Stick - 1
Star Anise - 2
Cloves - 4
Orange - 3 Slices
Lemon Peel - 2

Add all the ingredients to a saucepan and cook on a medium to low heat, gently simmer for 10 minutes.

Remove from the heat and let it infuse for 30 minutes.

Strain out all the ingredients using a sieve. Serve warm and garnish orange wedge, cinnamon stick & star anise garnish.

Myth Drinks attended their first big trade show at the Low2NoBev Show at Olympia in London!

From planning their stand to fitting everything in the car, setting up and smiling all day, it was a new and happy experience for Colette and Andy as well as Ionica from IProductions who was busy snapping away and creating some cool social media content. NonToxicated's own Leanne and Lisa popped by to say hello and of course try a cheeky drink!

When we visited the stand there were lots of smiles for Myth and their handmade Tiki bar, as well as some cool tunes and lots of love ❤️

Lucy Loves NonTox!

Everything Changes...

Without doubt, the NonToxicated highlight of August came with the launch of Lucy Spraggan‘s new single “Everything Changes”.

Lucy has just passed the 3 year sober mark – having previously found herself turning to alcohol following her success on the X-Factor. She marked her 10 year anniversary of appearing on the X-Factor with this latest single which samples one of her original hits “Beer Fear” that documented many of the precarious situations she found herself in after a night of drinking.

Back in February 2021 Lucy launched her “Choices” album the same week as the NonToxicated App - she gave us lots of shout outs over on Instagram so we wanted to support her in this latest launch. We were invited to her VIP single launch and surprised her with a hamper full of AF drinks!

“Everything Changes” is a highly appropriate title as Lucy is now a huge advocate of AF drinks!

To organise something special for the single launch we approached our Brand Partners and many of them donated drinks for us to put together a fabulous hamper which we hand delivered to Lucy at her VIP launch party on 23 ^rd August! To make it extra special we packed it all in a Wooden Retro Vinyl Storage Crate – which came in very handy when we reached the venue as it was on wheels and was super heavy!

We were thrilled to watch Lucy perform old and new songs with her guitar at the Feel Good Club in Manchester – what a voice she has.

At the end of the evening, after a Q&A session where she talked about exercise / fitness helping to replace alcohol, Lucy was thrilled to receive the NonToxicated Hamper and JOMO Box we had taken and along and spent time talking to us about the drinks, lots of hugs were exchanged.

She has since shared videos of the drinks over on Instagram - check out our link to the highlights too which all helps awareness of the alcohol free movement.

Lucy has announced a tour in May next year – would be great if some of our members wanted to meet up in Manchester or Sheffield!

The Mindful Drinking Festival

The Mindful Drinking Festival, a Club Soda event, took place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th July at The Open Market in Brighton. Leanne and Lisa travelled down from Yorkshire and spent the full day there on Saturday...

First Impressions

As soon as we arrived we could tell that this was going to be an event with character – The Open Market is a vibrant and eclectic space which is home to an array of quirky craft shops and healthy street food stalls.

The Mindful Drinking Festival took over the central market space for the weekend and there was a real buzz with lots of locals keen to try the samples of alcohol free and premium softs drinks on offer. Many brands were selling their drinks to take home and were doing special take-home offers including tote bags and other merchandise to make your purchase even more appealing!

We were really grateful to Laura from Club Soda for finding space for us to leave our bags and squeezing us into a couple of sold-out tastings!

Putting Faces To Names!

Before heading off to the tasting workshops we had a walk around to see who was there and to say hello to some of our Brand/Distribution partners. Wise Bartender had a great selection of products, some of which we'd not tried before and it was great to see they had samples of English Garden, the popular Pimms AF alternative from ANON Drinks as well as Myth Coconut, Myth Dark Spiced and Horny Goat from Goat Drinks

The Bemuse stand was very busy...the news of the award-winning AF Mead has spread fast! Tom at Strykk was busy serving up samples of the new Not Aperitvo and Gemma at JOMO Club already had lots of interest in their subscription boxes! It was great to meet Maria and Craig from Mindful Brands, one of our newest partners, and taste their products; Marie Laveau , Maria & Craig's and Celtic Soul ....we loved them all!

And of course the ever popular Lyre's stand was fully stocked with their alcohol free spirits and RTD cans!

Tasting Workshops / Discussions

Club Soda had organised a great programme of discussions and tasting events. In true NonTox style we were really keen to get involved in the tastings and were lucky enough to grab a slot at both the AF Wine Tasting and the Introduction to AF Drinks tasting!

Alcohol Free Wines

Josh Kelly from Club Soda led the wine tasting event – wine is a very popular topic in the NonTox Facebook Group as members constantly ask for recommendations, having often been disappointed when first trying out AF wines. Josh was incredibly knowledgeable about the sector and walked us through a handful of wines, explaining how flavour that is normally carried in wines by alcohol can be carried and lifted instead by using bubbles, sugar, acidity, teas etc.

Before getting stuck into the wines, we cleansed our palates with a can of Sea and T from Sea Arch ! We sampled three wines by North South Wines Ltd; Belle and Co Sparkling White, La Gioiosa 0.0%, and Very Cautious Wines Riesling. The Belle and Co is a wine we’re familiar with and is a great choice for an inexpensive fizz although some of our tasting group found it a little sweet for their palate – Lisa found when she first stopped drinking alcohol that she preferred slightly sweeter wines and that as her palate changeds he preferred dry - the dryer the better!

The La Gioiosa is a more sophisticated fizz whilst the Riesling was a big win for us – although you could taste the fruit, it had a lovely astringency and dryness – will be one that we buy again.

This was the first tasting for many at the festival of Thomson & Scott's Noughty Rouge – Josh explained that it had caused quite a stir with many wine tasters from the alcohol-ful world. Many of the characteristics of a good red wine are there; some body, colour, tannins, dryness – in Lisa's opinion although it would not be mistaken for an alcohol-ful wine it is right up there with the best of the alcohol free reds! Our tasting group gave it a unanimous thumbs up!

Josh then introduced us to a couple of other drinks that aren’t wines but can provide a wine-like experience – when you want bubbles to celebrate but fancy something completely different....

Alcohol Free Wine Alternatives

REAL Sparkling Tea is a premium, complex Kombucha which is a favourite of Laura Willoughby of Club Soda and Saicho Sparkling Tea probably provided the most unusual taste of the day – it really split opinion – we sampled the Hojicha which tasted quite bitter with tobacco notes but a few people raved about it. Later on in the day we tried Saicho’s Jasmine Sparking Tea which was divine!

And last but not least we tasted Good Living Brew Co’s Binary Botanicals which is described as the “wine-lovers beer”. It has a definite hoppy taste but very fresh, as it uses the leaves as well at the hops. We have tried this before and love it with cheese!

Grown Up Soft Drinks

Later in the day we were taken on a whistle stop tour of alcohol free and premium / grown up soft drinks with Amy from Dry But Wet an Australian AF Drinks Expert!

We got to try a range of different drinks including:

Rebelicious CBD Cream Soda (great if you have a sweet tooth!)

Lucky Saint (love this lager!)

Big Issue Kombucha

Crafty Nectar (a favourite of ours!)

Square Root Soda Negroni

OTC Sorrel

and one of the drinks that has really made some waves in the AF industry this year....

Bemuse – Tarragon, Basil and Hops

We sadly missed JOMO Club’s Cocktail making demonstration but we saw Gemma's video and it looked like brilliant fun with all participants getting to create each cocktail – will definitely book on to that one if offered again!

Summing Up

What we loved about this festival was that it was a fabulous opportunity for members of the public and bars / restaurants thinking of expanding their AF offering to sample a fantastic range of drinks. Many founders / creators were present at the festival so it was great to hear all about the “stories” behind the drinks. We met some amazing people and tasted some great drinks! This event is a must visit for any alcohol free drinks enthusiasts who want to immerse themselves in the alcohol-free world! There are very few events which are open to the public, a lot are trade only - well worth the trip! Maybe we should organise a trip for the NonTox Community next year?!?

The Launch Of The KAM Low+No Consumer Perspective Report

At the beginning of July, we were invited down to 'that there London' for the Launch of the KAM Research report which we knew was something that would be useful to NonToxicated and our alcohol free drinks community.

We were intrigued to know if the research mirrored what we’ve seen from our own alcohol free drinks community and was excited to learn more about the market trends and what consumers think and need.

We'd like to thank KAM and Lucky Saint for commissioning this report and also Trip , Pentire Drinks , REAL , Brimful Drinks and all the other businesses for their input too.

Here’s Leanne's summary of the event and some interesting statistics from the report...

The Low+No Launch Event

I travelled down on the train to London from Wakefield, on a hot July morning, and was looking forward to hearing the findings of the report from the alcohol free consumer perspective, networking with some new and existing contacts in the alcohol free world, as well as sampling some AF drinks of course!

The event was held at a cool place called Bounce, the ultimate Ping Pong experience, in Holborn although I gave the table tennis a miss on this occasion!

Upon registration I was met with another friendly northerner from KAM who instantly recognised my accent and showed me down to the drinks tasting and networking area.

The first alcohol free drinks brand I came across was Mocktails . After a long train and tube journey, I was delighted to be met with a fantastic choice of alcohol free, nitro charged, ready to drink cocktails! Ash, the Mocktail Maker, served up a thirst-quenching Sansgria which hit the spot nicely!

Coincidently, the next person I bumped into was Pooja from Mocktails who has offered to send some samples of the full range of Mocktails, including the new Espress0% Martini, to NonTox HQ…watch this space for our views on the range of Mocktails!

After a bit of networking with representatives from some of the best brands in the alcohol free world, it was time to take a seat and find out what the latest trends and insights were in the AF industry.

It was great to hear the views from different perspectives and the conversations certainly gave me lots of food for thought!

Alcohol Consumption Statistics

The report looked at 4 different ‘alcohol consumption profiles’ as follows:

Teetotaler – 0 units per week – 13 % of UK population

Low – 0-10 units per week – 58% of UK population

Medium – 11-20 units per week – 20% of UK population

High – 21 units + per week – 9% of UK population

We believe that many of the NonToxicated community fall into the ‘Low’ category.

12 Interesting Alcohol Free Drinks Industry Statistics

The Low+No Report is full of statistics relating to alcohol free drinks consumers. We’ve picked out some of the most interesting ones for you, the NonToxicated community.

Interesting Stat 1 - 55% of consumers say they are looking to reduce their alcohol consumption over the next 12 months

The main reasons for Teetotalers not consuming alcohol:

· 41% To save money

· 36% General health reasons

· 32% To have more energy

· 32% To improve physical health

· 27% To improve mental health

The main reasons for the ‘Low’ category not consuming alcohol:

· 35% To save money

· 30% To improve physical health

· 29% To lose weight

Please note, people were allowed to choose more than one answer to each question hence the percentages totalling more than 100%.

Interesting Stat 2 - The drinks that the 'low' category would most likely order in pubs, bars and restaurants is Traditional Soft Drinks!

Interesting Stat 3 – 29% (nearly 1 in 3) of pub visits do not include any alcohol consumption

Interesting Stat 4 - 37% of consumers drink Low and No at home at least once a week, compared to 25% out-of-home

Interesting Stat 5 - 54% of consumers discover new low & non alcoholic drinks in supermarkets specifically

Interesting Stat 6 - 1 in 10 Millennials find it difficult to find AF products when in store

Interesting Stat 7 – There have been significant increases in quality perception across all categories since last year, with the largest increase coming from the beer category

Interesting Stat 8 - Pub and bars have a higher rating for range than restaurants, but both are behind supermarkets. 40% say that pubs/bars have an ‘average’ range (this is 47% for restaurants), and nearly 1 in 5 believe restaurants have a poor selection (1 in 7 for pubs/bars)

Interesting Stat 9 – Consumers find it difficult to see what Low and No drinks are available in venues. 1 in 5 for pubs / 1 in 4 for restaurants

Interesting Stat 10 – Price remains a barrier to purchase for consumers across all age groups

Interesting Stat 11 - Awareness of AF beer has grown from 66% in 2020 to 79% in 2022. A rise in awareness of 20%. Nearly 8 in 10 of all consumers are aware of AF beer as a category with 2 in 5 having tried it within the last 12 months.

Interesting Stat 12 – 72% of UK adults have tried a low or no alcoholic drink

There are many more statistics included in the report but we wanted to highlight the ones relevant to you as consumers.

It was also noted that awareness and consumption of alcohol-free/Low and No has increased, year-on-year, and is now at an all-time high. Taste and quality remain the main drivers for consumer choice.

The NonToxicated View

We think the research carried out by KAM has been really useful and certainly shows that the alcohol free industry is growing, and the future looks bright for alcohol free drinks consumers and brands alike!

While progress has been made, the fact that consumers that fall into the ‘low’ category are still predominantly purchasing traditional soft drinks when visiting pubs and restaurants, shows that venues are falling behind in catering for the growing number of consumers looking to purchase alcohol free drinks when going out to eat or drink. Hopefully the publication of this report and other hard work being done in the industry will force change. The representatives from the bar & restaurant industry certainly acknowledged these issues when talking at the event and are onboard with the fact that they can, and must do better.

Taste, quality, price and availability of alcohol free drinks are key areas that are important to consumers, which is in alignment with what the NonToxicated community tell us. We hope that next year’s report shows improvement in these areas.

Supermarkets are the place that the majority of consumers discover new alcohol free drinks but millennials find it hard to find these products in store! Finding Joy Within

The summer can be a tough time for those who are trying to moderate or those in the early days of their alcohol free journey. Sometimes reading about someone else’s story can help...

One of our NonToxicated members; Kath Wynne-Jones has shared her journey in her book “Finding Joy Within”. She has also produced an accompanying journal you could use to help track your own journey. Our founder, Lisa, was in an Annie Grace “The Path” membership group with Kath. It clearly had a big impact on them both as Lisa decided to set up NonToxicated and Kath ended up writing a book!

I am excited to share that at last my book and journal Finding Joy Within are launched ! ❤️��

It’s been 5 years in the writing, with the support of so many people, and tells my story of how I changed my life from one that I was at best surviving, to one that I love and that I’m grateful for every single day.

Outwardly, throughout my life I would appear to have everything; a beautiful daughter, a beautiful home, amazing family and friends and a great career. However, come the weekends or any stressful situation, Prosecco had become a definite addition to my ‘bestie‘ list. Whilst things may outwardly have appeared OK, inside my head was a living nightmare!

I have written my book from the heart and it describes my rollercoaster journey of rebuilding my life over the past 2 years through COVID , a divorce, and facing my alcohol and sugar demons.

In the book, I share my uniquely designed and developed system - ‘The Joyful Life Liberator™’ - which is based on my 10 years of research, experience and successful implementation with myself and many clients, to help people live their lives with presence, purpose and authenticity to experience more joy, love and fun in their lives every single day.

I am still a work in progress, I’m just a much more experienced one now, sharing my journey with the intention that it may inspire and comfort others , especially those facing challenges in their life right now, that it is possible that they too can intentionally find more joy and pleasure in life by looking within.

The associated journal is designed to help you connect with and remember those wonderful moments which happen each and every day and can often go unnoticed, in a very practical way.

Life can be challenging , but this journal will helps reflection on the positive things that happen and how we can grow, even in difficult circumstances.

Journalling has been a big part of my journey to finding my joy within. Through writing , I gain more clarity and insight about my mind and emotions, leading to heightened self- awareness , self - acceptance , self - love and self - compassion.

Not Another Beer Co - Lucky Saint

Nick Sorrell from All Hail The Ale has been a regular contributor to the NonToxicated Facebook group. We love his beer reviews and he kindly agreed to let us share one on here! Here at NonToxicated, we feel Lucky Saint is a great starting point for someone new to the AF space - and it's widely available in supermarkets so should be easy to get your hands on some!

Yep, another AF beer, this time a la....lag.....lager - there, I said it. Lucky Saint is one I've seen many times in supermarkets and on websites where one can acquire AF beer, but up until my blood decided it preferred to be in a solid state in my lungs, I'd not picked it up to try.

I served it properly cold. It poured pale, and it had a touch of haze, and a spongy white head. It looked much better than many lagers I've had. It smelled typically alcohol free, that bready/yeasty/sweet malt profile is prominent. The taste though really did surprise me. The body is on the lighter side of medium, and the mouthfeel is just right. The malt profile is on the money, and there is a hint of that citrus hop coming through. It's a clean, light, grassy taste. And here is the crunch point. If you were served this with no clue what you were drinking, in my humble opinion, you could be fooled for thinking you were drinking a full fat lager.

The chalk board of joy reveals a very good score for Lucky Saint. The only thing for me that could use a little work is the aroma, but that's nit picking. The taste is what matters, and with my view that it could fool many a lager drinker, it's a winner in my book. Lucky Saint gets 3.75/5 from moi .

The AF Red Wine Debate

One of the topics that crops up on a regular basis on the NonToxicated! Facebook Group is wine…and in particular, red wine.

And it’s quite a divided discussion too!

We’ve reviewed some popular alcohol free red wines, but it seems that it really is down to personal preference, so we would say that you just have to bite the bullet and try them for yourself!

The AF Red Wine Taste Test

Red Wine No 1 - Sainsburys Alcohol Free Red Wine (Germany) - 0.05%

Calories - 22cals per 100ml

Sugars - 5.0g per 100ml

We found this to be ok for an everyday drink with food, if you like having a glass of wine with your meal. It was fruity and quite sweet. We could detect some berry flavours. It left a pleasing dryness on the tongue. A slight vinegar aroma becomes apparent as you drink it. We would describe it as a thin bodied red wine.

Red Wine No 2 - Eisberg Alcohol Free Merlot (Germany) 0.0%

Calories - 23cals per 100ml

Sugars - 5g per 100ml

This is a light-coloured wine and quite thin bodied. It was very easy to drink and it tasted better than it smelt. It had a medium sweetness and left a slight dryness on the tongue. We enjoyed it with food but it is very drinkable on its own, as there is nothing unpleasant about it. We are not really a fan of the clear bottle though as we feel it makes it look quite cheap.

Red Wine No 3 - Tesco Low Alcohol Cabernet Tempranillo (Spain) <0.5 %

Calories
- 30 cals per 100ml (We think the label declaration may be wrong and have queried with Tesco as it states 9.9g carbs per 100ml but only 1.0g sugars. We feel this sugar content can’t be right).

This is the sweetest of the wines we tasted. They use “spinning cone technology” to remove the alcohol. It had a big hit of sweetness rather than berry flavours but still leaves the tongue a little dry.

Red Wine No 4 - Ariel 2018 De-alcoholised Cabernet Sauvignon (USA -California) - <0.5%

Calories - 22 cals per 100ml

Sugars - 4.1g per 100ml
